EFL WORKS FOR TEENAGERS & CHILDREN
Teenagers and children use The Awareness Key for all sorts of reasons: to overcome challenges – build confidence – cope effectively with ordeals – unlock potential – increase concentration and learn more effectively – shine in social situations – handle conflict better – achieve goals – stand up to bullying – manage the effects of social media.
Life is difficult and confusing at times . . . but it is the way you handle the highs and lows that makes all the difference. The Awareness Key will help you unjumble complex situations and underlying issues to try and understand the root of the problem. You will then be encouraged with the aid of equine-based exercises to use your skills and strengths to explore different approaches and actions. In doing so, you will grow in confidence and learn how to effectively overcome the obstacles you encounter in everyday activities.
One of the joys of EFL is that you are not confined to a room, you are not forced to speak one-on-`one to a therapist. The equine-based activities are fun and relaxing and you will be pleasantly surprised at what you can learn in an environment where no one is judging you, no one is forcing you. It is up to you how much, how far and how fast you would like to progress.
Life is full of pressures and challenges – some good, some not so good. It does not matter where the pressures come from – school, home, or when socialising; it does not matter whether you are a young child, young teenager or young adult, there are times when you may feel that everything and everybody is against you. Through equine-based activities, The Awareness Key can show you techniques that you can use from day-to-day to help you feel happier and more in control. You will learn mindfulness techniques so you can self-manage in a calm and non-aggressive way to overcome the challenges you face.
A horse will react differently to you if you are shy and withdrawn than if you are outgoing and full of confidence. By taking part in specifically designed equine based activities, you will learn how to become more assured around the animal and you will feel proud when the horse responds positively to your actions and moods. This will in turn boost your confidence and self-esteem which you will then be able to transfer into your everyday life. With confidence, you will feel you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
Cope effectively with ordeals
If you feel you cannot cope with the ordeals life throws at you whether it is losing someone close to you, school or college work, an illness in the family, a relationship breakup, a lost friend or any situation which feels overwhelming, The Awareness Key can help. Using equine-based activities you will learn that you can take a step back, centre yourself and understand what changes you could make in order to manage the situation and move forward in an optimistic and constructive way. The Awareness Key will never pry into your personal and private thoughts; it will never force you to go beyond the boundaries you set for yourself. There is always an effective way forward, let the horses show you.
Unlock your potential
You have the potential to be and do what you want. Sometimes, though, your potential is hidden away and you are unsure how exactly to find it. Through working with The Awareness Key you will learn how to make small changes to your mindset, how to make slight changes to your behaviour, how to find the confidence to work and play at your best. You will learn through the horse’s behaviour and be able to unlock your true potential.
Increase concentration and learn more effectively
Whether you are trying to concentrate and learn for exams; whether you feel you would much rather be doing something other than sitting in a classroom; or whether your mind wanders when you are meant to be concentrating, there is a solution. Through a series of equine-based activities guided by a qualified practitioner, you will see how you can centre yourself, how you can focus on what you need to, how you can place the emphasis in the right place. The horse’s reaction to your moods will encourage better engagement and motivation. EFL with The Awareness Key is also particularly helpful for young people with learning difficulties, for those who find it difficult to focus, for those who lack motivation and for those who wish to learn more effectively.
Shine in social situations
Are there times when you feel excluded from a group? Do you sometimes feel nobody listens to what you have to say? Through a series of bespoke activities with The Awareness Key, you will learn how your actions and reactions make the horse listen to you and react positively – or make the horse simply ignore you! You will be shown how small differences in your external behaviour and internal feelings will result in positive feedback from the horse. Armed with this knowledge you will be able to go home and put into practise what the horse has taught you so that you can shine more in social situations.
Handle conflict better
Do you sometimes find yourself in a situation you would prefer not to be in and find it hard to react in a controlled, sensible way? The horses will give accurate feedback through their responses as you learn to engage and build a relationship with them. Using their innate sensitivity, you will see how calm, thoughtful actions and moods achieve better results. On recognising the significant differences your feelings and behaviours can make, you will learn how to react more appropriately, how to stay calm and how to cope better in times of conflict resulting in a more positive outcome.
Achieve your goals
Have you set yourself some goals at home, at school or in sport? Are you struggling to meet them and feel you need help? By utilising equine based activities, The Awareness Key will highlight how, by altering your mood or mindset, the horse will respond differently to you. You will then be able to take this new found knowledge and use it at home or school to help you achieve your specific goals.
Stand up to bullying
By seeing how a horse reacts to you through a series of equine based activities, you will learn how to develop your confidence and emotional intelligence. With the horse’s help, you will grow to realise that the bully is the person with the problem and not you. You will gain insight into how your behaviour can affect how you are perceived and what positive actions you can make to help you change people’s perception of you. By being in control of a large and hugely powerful horse, you will find you have the confidence to be in control of the way you react to a bully; you will have the courage to move forward positively and self-assuredly. Once a bully realises you are strong, independent and confident, their weakness will be revealed and you will be able to move forward with your life.
Manage the effects of social media
It is amazing what you can learn from posts, tweets, messages and images; it is great to be able to stay in touch 24/7 with friends and family all over the world; it is an excellent platform from which to increase awareness in social and political issues. However, the flip side to social media is that it can prevent personal connections and “real world” experiences; it can lead to cyberbullying, stalking, hacking and privacy issues. So how are teenagers and children expected to manage the effects?
The Awareness Key will use equine-based activities to show how true resilience and happiness comes from within and not necessarily from online. It will show you how to interact positively and effectively in “real world” situations and events. You will gain the confidence to query any questionable social media comment. It will help you understand the effect biased online comments, thoughts and exaggerations may have. With the help of EFL horses, you will find you have the essential skills for a confident, empathetic and happy life with the ability to prioritise what is important.
EFL FOR TEENAGERS AND CHILDREN – WHAT THE AWARENESS KEY TRAINING CAN TEACH YOU
The Awareness Key training is always tailored to the learning and therapeutic needs of the individual attending. During a programme or session you will be led towards success and positive outcomes in the tasks you do with the horses. It is through the honest, non-judgmental feedback from the horses that you will gain skills and knowledge of positive behaviour.
The Awareness Key will show you how you can learn to live and work to the best of your ability. You will be shown how to get into an appropriate frame of mind for any situation you may face. You will be shown how you are in control of your behaviour and personality. You will see how you have the option to do something differently and become aware of any mistaken assumptions or habitual behaviour about yourself and others. You will learn that worrying is not a bad thing, it is just something to direct effectively. You will learn that you can be whatever you put your mind to be. The Awareness Key will give you the tools, knowledge and confidence to move in the direction of your choice.
EFL FOR TEENAGERS AND CHILDREN – HOW THE SESSIONS UNFOLD
The Awareness Key offers personalised programmes for teenagers and children. Each session lasts for one hour. Either you or your parents or carer will have an informal discussion with The Awareness Key about your aims and goals. After that the fun bit starts! You will be guided through a series of enjoyable, relaxed equine-based activities designed to establish a starting point. From there, bespoke challenges are created to meet your specific requirements and abilities. Unless you want to, there is no need to touch or be very near the horse. There is no need to have long, serious conversations with the practitioner. You will be amazed at how much you can learn and grow by interacting or observing the horse’s reaction to you – all in a chilled, non-judgemental environment.
